I think Earth does, indeed, have sentience. Similar to you becoming aware of yourself as an entity around 3 years of age, I think Earth has done the same kind of thing. I also think that when someone consciously contacts Earth's self awareness, then that person has a bonafide spiritual experience. I see Earth (God) as a family as well as a single entity. This implies that there are probably trillions of gods in the Universe. This doesn't bother me. Speculations and claims regarding a universal, omnipotent entity that is "beyond human understanding" seem to me to be nothing but forms of mental masturbation leading nowhere. My, (and other's), "down to Earth" concept is realistic, and more importantly, discussible, not to mention provable and believable.
I also think it is quite possible that galaxies are gods, as well. These are still definable entities, and therefore provable and discussible. I think getting to personally know Earth as God is a great first step, as it is the closest and most accessible next bigger god. Once humanity accomplishes that task, it can move on to even greater gods. The trouble with "jumping the gun" and trying to believe in only the most powerful and biggest god of all, (the one no one can define), is that people tend to ignore and belittle the lesser ones, (like Earth), and thereby cut themselves off from the easiest and most effective access to the Divine.
I think many people don't want to think Earth is God because Earth isn't "good enough". I think such people are conceited, short-sighted fools.
